    WATAN was founded in 2012 as an independent, non-governmental, apolitical and non-sectarian organization. WATAN is registered as a non-profit organization in the UK, US, Jordan, Iraq, and Turkey. The UK and US offices perform advocacy and fundraising only. The operational and management functions are located in Turkey with several offices inside Syria.

     WATAN runs activities in Education, Protection, Food Security and Livelihoods, Economic Empowerment, Shelter and NFI, WASH, Civil Society Support and Health. WATAN has worked to create productive partnerships with many Arab and international organizations. WATAN’s aims to reach the largest number of people who are in need whether they are displaced inside Syria, refugees in neighboring countries or host communities. WATAN has provided assistance and aid to almost 7 million beneficiaries.

Position Requirements

    Education: Essential diploma of medicine.

    Experience: Desirable experience with NGOs.

Responsibility

    Provides outpatient care to WATAN beneficiaries according to international protocols, values and universal hygiene standards as defined in the project objectives.

    Reports hierarchically to the Field coordinator and functionally to the Medical Team Leader.

    Collaborates with the field medical team.

    Medical activities.

    Ensures that professional confidentiality is respected.

    Provides out-patient consultations.

    Checks that triage is carried out according to emergency criteria and the vulnerability of patients.

    Carries out consultations following international treatment protocols and noting observations on health care forms.

    Takes the responsibility of the chronic patients ensuring a constant follow up of the cases.

    Provides patients with information on their illnesses, explaining the treatments involved and how to follow them, checking that patients have properly understood.

    Ensures the follow up of previously hospitalized patients in the outpatient’s department.

    Monitors the rational distribution of medicines at the pharmacy level.

    Works in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team and participates in ongoing staff training (care techniques, updating protocols etc.)

    Provides first aid Emergency care for patients with medical emergencies consulting and referral as necessary.

    Participates in the collection and analysis of epidemiological data (medical statistics), checking its validity

    Monitor and inform about the type of pathologies, abnormal increases in a number of consultations as well as any epidemic potentials.

    Inform line manager about any possible serious problem or complication, ex. worsening of state of patients, problems in medicines, etc.

    Inform line manager of any problems that might be linked to the work of doctors as well as problematic equipment or material (ex. broken, missing).

    Look after all equipment provided.

    Ensure that no material is taken out of doctors’ area without prior authorization.

    Keep an updated inventory of all material and equipment used and ask in advance for all renewable material needed.
