Job Summary

    WATAN Foundation, together with its partners is providing humanitarian assistance to people affected by the Syrian crisis, both in Syria and Turkey.

    Managed by the Psychologist and working in collaboration with technical staff and based in Izmir or Mersin, the PSS Counsellor will be working with individuals, groups and communities to improve mental health, encourage the BNFs to discuss emotions and experiences and refer them to psychologists and other services.

Position Requirements

    • Under the supervision of the Psychologist, she/he will assess the needs of persons and families referred by the Social workers in order to confirm the need for psychosocial support.
    • Under the supervision of the Psychologist,, she/he will assess the needs of persons and families referred by the Protection Outreach workers in order to confirm the need for psychosocial support.
    • She/he will define appropriate activities according to the needs identified (individual counseling, the number of sessions, and the type of activity planned) and will follow up those persons.
    • S/he will ensure that project implementation is going well to meet objectives; reporting regularly on important issues.
    • She/he will ensure that each of her/his sessions is documented in order to comply with donor audit requirements.
    • When required, coordinate with other stakeholders to reduce and/or eliminate potential risk factors.
    • Participate in internal work meetings;
    • Report any security related issues to the line manager;
    • Bachelors Degree in Psychology.
    • At least 2 years’ experience working on humanitarian aid programs, including work with refugee populations.
    • Prior experience in Protection Programmes.
    • A team player.
    • Excellent planning and communication skills.
    • Strong report writing and documentation skills.
    • Fluent spoken and written Arabic.
    • Solid computer skills, especially in MS Outlook, MS Word and MS Excel.
    • Ability to work effectively with an ethnically diverse team in a sensitive environment.
    • Spoken Turkish or English.
    • Prior experience of participating in humanitarian coordination mechanisms.
    • Management experience.

Responsibility

    • To provide psychosocial support, counselling, and organize support activities.
    • To strengthen referral pathways between actors in the community and connection between PSS and MHPSS service providers.
    • To ensure activities are up to standard and results are in line with project objectives and outcomes.
    • To report accurately to the Psychologist, participate in the Monitoring of the project, and produce relevant information about the project activities and achievements.
    • Analysis, Detection and Reduction of Risk Factors.
    • Develop and Perform Preventive Measures.
