Job Summary

    WATAN Foundation in Turkey, together with its partners, is providing humanitarian assistance to people affected by the Syrian crisis, both in Syria and Turkey. 

    Managed by the project Manager. He / She is working together with legal Assistant. He/she has the main roles in providing legal advice, providing legal guidelines , analyzing and identifying the legal issue, offered legal expertise in different Matters.The position will be based in Izmir .

Position Requirements

    • Graduates of Faculties of Law (completion of law internship will be an asset).
    • Having competency on Human Rights Law, Humanitarian Law, Refugee Law at the national and international level.
    • Minimum 1-3 years of professional experience.
    • Having high communication skills and speaks fluently and effectively.
    • Having a good command of English.
    • Having competency in MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
    • Knowledge of human rights law.
    • Knowledge of Turkish national law on Foreigners and International Protection.
    • Experience or interest on Syrian context.
    • English, Turkish and/or Arabic is required.

Responsibility

    • Support the Info Hub to develop coordinated, efficient and measurable protection for Syrian refugees.
    • Meet Syrian refugees at the WATAN Info Hub in to provide necessary guidance and orientation to enable them in benefiting their rights stipulated as per domestic and international legislative frameworks.
    • Provide entire legal trajectory and counseling through “take them by the hand” approach.
    • Accompany beneficiaries to appointments with authorities.
    • Inform Syrian refugees about their legal, civil and social rights and responsibilities such as residence status, legal aid, marriage, divorce, birth, death, acquisition of property etc.
    • Assist with the legal questions coming from the staff and beneficiaries.
    • Work closely with other staff, specialists and interpreters of the Info Hub.
    • Conduct legal awareness sessions to staff members and beneficiaries when needed.
    • Refer vulnerable or any other cases to the relevant stakeholders, UN agencies or other NGOs when needed.
    • Accompany the vulnerable referred cases up to the relevant organizations when deemed necessary.
    • Conduct legal research and keep apprised of relevant legal developments.
    • Monitor national and international news outlets for relevant social, legal and political developments.
    • Liaise with government officials, partner organizations and individuals.
    • Regularly report migrants and refugees’ common problems and needs in access to rights and services.
    • Report challenges and progress recorded when realization of duties.
    • Update Info Hub staff about the relevant legislative changes.
    • Organize and maintain documents in a paper or electronic filing systems.
    • Write reports to help lawyers prepare for trials when deemed necessary.
    • Perform other duties as may be assigned.
